ELITE: DANGEROUS - COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT

The following rules apply to you, the user when playing the game Elite Dangerous.
You must adhere to the following rules of conduct, and also follow a reasonable, common-sense and respectful code of conduct. Users are required to take into consideration community standards and refrain from abusive or deceptive conduct, Rights of other users should be respected.

You agree to not:

Be insulting to any person via obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory comments via the in-game text or voice communications.

Use sexually explicit or harmful language including the use of misspelled or punctuated words to insinuate, represent any of the above - also known as "masked swearing".

Be abusive to other players based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or other criteria that offends other users.

Do Not Divulge Personal Details

You agree to not disclose names, addresses, telephones, mobile or fax numbers, email addresses or any other personally identifiable data of any individual. We request for your safety that you do not disclose sensitive information about yourself or others in the game.

Do Not Impersonate Another User

You are expressly forbidden from impersonating another player, moderator, administrator, Frontier employee or any of Frontier's partners. You will not give the impression that a comment or communication emanates from any of the listed.

Zero Tolerance Policy on Offensive, Pornography and/or other Illegal/Malicious Content

You must not communicate offensive material post information or adverts that illustrate illegal activity (including without limitation the posting or promoting of illegal software or media, be it television or software piracy) or lead to malicious sites/files. Any posts of such content with pornographic, fraudulent, phishing or warez material will be investigated and the user could be subject to punative recourse.

You must not to conduct any activities that violate any applicable laws, including copyright or trademark infringement, defamation, invasion of privacy, identity theft, hacking, stalking, fraud.

No Spam

  1. No "spam" in the game. Spamming is defined as the abuse of systems to post unnecessary or irrelevant messages, or non-contributing postings.
  2. This includes, but isn't limited to solicitations, advertisments and posting multiple messages of the same thread across multiple communications in order to get your comments noticed.

No witch-hunts/mob-mentality hunts

  1. We do not permit the use of comms in the game to be used for 'witch-hunts' or mob-mentality griefing.
  2. This is essentially the inverse of naming and shaming where people will try to bait others into ratting people out.

Commander Names

  1. Gamer names must adhere to the same rules as comms or posts.
  2. Do not use anything that may be construed as offensive, inflammatory, or illegal.

No Naming and Shaming.

  1. We do not allow "naming and shaming" discussions, or types of communications deemed naming and shaming in the game.
  2. Naming and Shaming is the act of publicly naming someone and ridiculing or accusing them of something.

No cheating or taking advantage of exploits in the game

  1. We do not tolerate cheating of any kind in the game, this includes using  automated programs  or services offered outside of the game to generate player advantage, altering game code or using cheat codes.  
  2. We also do not tolerate the use of any exploits or the use of any possible bugs in the game to generate player advantage.
  3. Any player caught cheating or taking advantage of any exploits or bugs will be penalise and could face a game ban.

Frontier reserve the right to change or add to these rules without notice. All rules are interpreted, judged and enforced at the discretion of the moderators.

MAKING A COMPLAINT

Reporting offensive communications

If you wish to report another player for offensive communications there are two ways to do this in game:

Reporting a player from the main menu

  1. Click/Select the “Report A Player” option
  2. Write the offending player’s name in the “input name” section
  3. Choose their behaviour type on the behaviour drop down menu e.g. spamming, obscene
  4. Choose the type of reported offence, be it via text chat or via audio
  5. Enter a description featuring all relevant information that applies to the report
  6. Server time will usually fill itself but if it’s blank or if the offence was at another time, enter the most accurate time related to the offence.
  7. Click/Select the “OK” option once complete
  8. You will receive confirmation that the report has been sent

Reporting a player in game

  1. Target the player if possible, If it's not possible enter the game’s main menu and select report a player and continue from steps 5 Onwards
  2. Activate the chat Comms by holding down B and pressing up on the d-pad for the Xbox controller OR Pressing “2” on the keyboard.
  3. Open the drop down for that player by pressing “A” on the Xbox pad or “space” on the keyboard
  4. From the drop down menu select “Report Player”
  5. Click/Select the “Report A Player” option
  6. Write the offending players name in the “input name” section
  7. Choose their behaviour type on the behaviour drop down menu e.g. spamming, obscene
  8. Choose the type off reported offence, be it via text chat or via audio
  9. Enter a description featuring all relevant information that applies to the report
  10. Server time will usually fill itself but if its blank or if the offence was at another time enter the most accurate time related to the offence.
  11. Click/Select the “OK” option once complete
  12. You will receive confirmation that the report has been sent

Please use this process responsibly and only report behaviour that contravenes the Elite Dangerous code of conduct.

If you simply do not want an individual to be able to communicate with you, you can block comms in game by:

Blocking a player from the main menu

Block players from ‘Friends And Private Groups’ option:

  1. Select friend from either the online or offline sections
  2. Select ‘Block’ from the list of options that appear
    1. You can also ‘Unfriend’ players here too

Block players from ‘Friends’ list on front end:

  1. Friends online will appear in a list on the top right hand side of the main menu
  2. Select players name and choose ‘Block’ from list of options that appear

Blocking a player in game

  1. Target the player
  2. Activate the chat Comms by holding down B and pressing up on the d-pad for the Xbox controller OR Pressing “2” on the keyboard.

  4. From the drop down menu select “Block player”

Unless otherwise required by law, Frontier Developments PLC (Frontier ) is not responsible for monitoring or recording any communications, although Frontier reserves the right to do so and by playing the game you give Frontier your express consent to monitor and record your communications. Frontier reserves the right to remove any content and communication from you at Frontier's sole discretion without notice.
